Empowering Every Student to Succeed

At Glen Oaks Community College, we are committed to ensuring that all students—regardless of ability—have full and equal access to every part of the college experience. The Disability Support Services (DSS) office partners with students, faculty, and staff to remove barriers and create an inclusive, supportive learning environment.

Whether you're a recent high school graduate, a working adult, or a parent supporting your student, our team is here to help you succeed.

Who We Serve

We proudly support students with documented physical, psychological, learning, or other disabilities, including but not limited to:

  • ADHD and learning disabilities (e.g., dyslexia)
  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Chronic health conditions
  • Mobility or sensory impairments
  • Mental health conditions (e.g., anxiety, depression)

How to Get Started with Disability Services

Getting accommodations is a straightforward process. Follow these three simple steps:

1. Schedule an Intake Appointment

Meet with our Student Support Specialist to:

  • Complete an intake form
  • Begin your personalized support plan
  • Learn about the services available to you

Tip: Bring documentation of your disability if available—it helps us expedite your support. However, documentation is not required to begin the intake process.

2. Submit Documentation

We accept a wide range of documentation including IEP/504 plans from high schools and from from licensed professionals. Ideal documentation:

  • Is as recent as possible
  • Clearly states a diagnosis
  • Explains how your condition impacts your academic life
  • Recommends specific accommodations
  • Is printed on official letterhead

Don’t have documentation yet? Our team can help guide you through the process.

Meet With the DSS Counselor

our next step is a one-on-one meeting with our Disability Support Services Counselor to:

  • Review your documentation
  • Finalize accommodations
  • Get approved before the semester begins

This counselor is the only person authorized to approve and sign off on accommodations.

Common Accommodations We Offer

Depending on your needs, we may provide:

  • Extended testing time
  • Note-taking assistance
  • Alternative format textbooks
  • Preferential classroom seating
  • Assistive technology and software
  • Reduced-distraction testing environments

We work with you to ensure your accommodations are tailored to your academic goals.
