Payment Due Dates & Payment Plan FAQs
Nelnet Payment Plans: What You Need to Know
Glen Oaks partners with Nelnet Campus Commerce to offer flexible payment plans. Whether you're waiting on financial aid or paying out-of-pocket, Nelnet helps you stay enrolled without upfront full payment.
Q: I signed up for a Nelnet plan before my financial aid was awarded. What happens
now?
A: You'll be placed in a regular Nelnet monthly plan. Once your financial aid is disbursed,
it may reduce or eliminate your balance. If your aid covers your full balance, the
plan will deactivate automatically. Want to switch to the Pending Aid Plan? Contact
the Cashier’s Office before the final Nelnet enrollment date.
Q: Can I cancel my Nelnet plan?
A: Students can’t cancel plans on their own. However, the Cashier’s Office can modify
your plan if you’ve paid in full or are switching to a new one. Plans deactivate automatically
when your balance is fully paid.
Q: How do I get text message reminders for payments?
A: Log into your SSO with your Viking username & password, click the Nelnet Campus Commerce tile, and
follow the steps to register for text alerts.
Q: What if I don’t have a credit card or bank account?
A: You’ll need to obtain one. Options include opening a bank account or using a prepaid
debit card with direct deposit. Ask Student Services for a list of area banks or recommended
prepaid cards. Only use accounts where you are the authorized account holder. You
may also want to look at the article: Best Prepaid Debit Cards to you with Direct Deposit to view prepaid cards that work like bank accounts and/or credit cards.
Q: I registered online but don’t want to pay with a card. What are my options?
A: Pay in full within 48 hours at the Cashier’s Office using cash, check, or money
order, or pay online with your bank account and routing number via the Nelnet tile
in your myGOCC portal.
Q: Can I register before I receive my financial aid award?
A: Yes—but you must sign up for a regular Nelnet Payment Plan, and a $30 non-refundable
enrollment fee will apply. Once your aid is awarded, contact the Cashier to request
a switch to the Pending Aid Plan.
Q: What if I add or drop a class after enrolling in Nelnet?
A: Your Nelnet account will automatically update within 24 hours of your schedule
change. Always double-check your Nelnet portal to confirm.
Q: I have a scholarship that covers my tuition. Do I still need Nelnet?
A: Yes. Even with full-coverage scholarships, all GOCC students using financial aid
must enroll in a Nelnet plan. If your scholarship fully covers your balance, you'll
be placed in the Pending Aid Plan with no enrollment fee.
Q: My employer is paying my tuition but hasn't submitted payment yet. What do I do?
A: You can pay upfront and request reimbursement from your employer, or enroll in
a Nelnet plan to stay enrolled.
Q: My financial aid only covers part of my tuition. How can I avoid the Nelnet fee?
A: Enroll in the Pending Aid Plan and pay the remaining balance at the Cashier’s Office
at least 3 business days before your payment due date to avoid the $30 fee.
Q: What if my bank account doesn’t have enough funds for my Nelnet payment?
A: Nelnet will charge a $25 NSF (non-sufficient funds) fee and reattempt the payment
up to two more times. Accumulating $75 or more in unpaid NSF fees will prevent you
from enrolling in future payment plans.
Q: Do I need to re-enroll in Nelnet every semester?
A: Yes. Nelnet payment plans do not renew automatically—you must enroll each semester.
Q: I lost the card tied to my Nelnet payments. How do I update it?
A: Log into Nelnet through your GOCC portal, go to Financial Accounts, and update
your payment method. You can also call Nelnet directly at 800-609-8056.
Q: I withdrew after the refund deadline. Can I stop future payments?
A: No. After the 100% drop date, you're responsible for the full balance. Payments
will continue.
Q: I withdrew before the 100% drop date. Can I get a refund for what I already paid?
A: Yes. Complete the withdrawal process in MyGOCC or submit a Drop/Add form. Refunds
(excluding the non-refundable $30 fee) will be processed by the Cashier’s Office.
Q: Can I choose when Nelnet payments are withdrawn?
A: No. Payments occur on the 5th of each month for regular plans, and the 20th for
Pending Aid Plans.
Q: What time of day are payments processed?
A: It depends on your bank. Nelnet recommends depositing funds a few days early to
avoid NSF issues.
Q: How will I be notified of my payments?
A: Nelnet sends a confirmation email once your plan is active. You can also sign up
for text alerts through the Nelnet portal.
Q: Can I make a payment over the phone?
A: No. All Nelnet payments must be made online.
Q: Does Nelnet have access to my bank account?
A: No. Nelnet only processes the payments you authorize. They do not have direct access
to your account.
Q: Will Nelnet share my personal information?
A: No. Nelnet does not share or sell your data. Your information is protected and
used only to process your payments.
Q: Can I get a tax summary from Nelnet?
A: Yes. A printable payment report is available in your Nelnet account under the Payments
tab.
