Transfer to Glen Oaks Community College

We’re excited you’ve chosen to continue your educational journey with us. Whether you're transferring from another college or bringing in prior learning experiences, we’re here to help you make the most of what you’ve already accomplished.

How to Transfer Your Credits to GOCC

After submitting your application, you’ll need to have your official transcripts sent from your previous college(s) to: transcripts@glenoaks.edu

Once received, our Registration Office will evaluate your transcripts to determine how your prior coursework aligns with Glen Oaks’ degree and certificate programs.

Tip: If you’ve served in the military, completed professional training, or earned industry-recognized credentials, you may also be eligible for Credit for Prior Learning.

Transfer Credit Guidelines

You can apply eligible transfer credits toward a certificate or associate degree at Glen Oaks, based on the following policies:

  • Certificates: Up to 75% of required credits may come from transfer or prior learning.
  • Associate Degrees: Up to 45 credit hours may be transferred in.
  • Only courses with a grade of 2.0 (C) or higher will be considered.
  • Grades and honor points do not transfer and are not calculated in your GOCC GPA.
  • Courses completed over 10 years ago may not be accepted.

Important: Credits are only reviewed after you have officially applied for admission.

Placement & Evaluation

Depending on your prior coursework or professional background, you may be asked to:

  • Take a course placement evaluation, or
  • Meet with a faculty member to determine your current skill level.

To assist with accurate evaluation, we may request course syllabi or official descriptions for specific classes.

Transfer Credits from International Institutions

If you are an international student:

  • Your transcripts must be evaluated by a recognized credential evaluation service.

  • The original institution must be accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the U.S. Department of Education.

  • Foreign institutions must also be recognized by a governmental or non-governmental body that oversees higher education quality in that country.

Please note: Glen Oaks reserves the right to deny credit if the institution or coursework does not meet accreditation or equivalency standards.
