If you love riding and believe in doing it safely, you may be the right fit to become a certified Motorcycle Safety Instructor, also known as a RiderCoach. Glen Oaks Community College is proud to be an approved training provider, helping experienced riders step into teaching roles that make a difference on Michigan’s roads.
Why Become a RiderCoach?
Teaching motorcycle safety isn't just a job—it's a way to save lives and share your love of riding. As a RiderCoach, you'll:
- Help new riders gain confidence and skills
- Promote safer riding habits across our communities
- Earn certification through the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), a nationally recognized leader in rider education
- Complete a basic writer course within one year of taking the RiderCoach instructor course.
RiderCoaches often work part-time and seasonally, making it a great opportunity for working adults, retirees, or those looking to give back.
Eligibility Requirements
To become a RiderCoach in Michigan, you must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Hold a valid driver’s license with a motorcycle (CY) endorsement
- Have no more than 6 points on your driving record within the 12 months before applying
- Successfully complete the MSF RiderCoach Preparation Course
Glen Oaks Can Sponsor Your Application
Glen Oaks Community College is an approved provider of motorcycle safety instruction and can sponsor your application with the Michigan Secretary of State. We’ll support you throughout the RiderCoach training process—including prep course registration, materials, and follow-up support.
