Trustee Profile

Bruce Gosling serves as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees for Glen Oaks Community College, bringing more than two decades of trusted leadership, financial expertise, and public service to the college. A lifelong resident of St. Joseph County and a proud Glen Oaks graduate, he is deeply committed to expanding educational opportunity and strengthening the community the college serves.

His leadership reflects a steady, principled approach grounded in accountability, service, and long-term stewardship.


Professional and Community Background

Bruce began his academic journey at Glen Oaks Community College, earning an Associate of General Studies degree before transferring to Trine University (formerly Tri-State University), where he graduated with high honors in Business Administration.

He retired December 31, 2025, after a 45-year career of practice as a certified public accountant in Sturgis. His professional career is defined by financial leadership, operational oversight, and trusted service to both business and nonprofit organizations.

Bruce has served on the Board of Directors of Century Bank & Trust Co. since 2012 and has been an active leader in numerous civic and service organizations throughout St. Joseph County.


Service to Glen Oaks

Bruce has served on the Glen Oaks Community College Board of Trustees since 2003 and has held the role of Chair since 2016. In this capacity, he provides leadership in policy development, financial oversight, and strategic planning to ensure the college remains accessible, fiscally responsible, and responsive to regional needs.

His connection to Glen Oaks is both professional and personal. Bruce and his wife, Leslie, raised three children—Tamara, Joshua, and Megan—each of whom is a Glen Oaks graduate, continuing a multi-generational family legacy at the college.


Community Leadership and Recognition

Bruce’s dedication to civic life has been recognized through numerous honors, including:

  • Sturgis Citizen of the Year
  • Sturgis Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year
  • Outstanding Young Men in America honoree
  • Exchange Club Book of Golden Deeds recipient 

He is actively involved with organizations such as the Sturgis Kiwanis Club, the Salvation Army Advisory Board, and the Sturgis Exchange Club, where he served as past president. His service also includes serving as a past treasurer of the Sturgis Neighborhood Program, St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman Club, Sturgis Historical Society, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and Meridian Sun-Eagle Lodge #49, Free & Accepted Masons.

An engaged member of First United Methodist Church, Bruce remains committed to mentoring, service, and strengthening community connections.


Governance Role

Trustees serve in a governance and policy-making capacity and are not involved in the day-to-day operations of the college. Operational leadership is provided by the President and executive leadership team.
