Rod Lopez serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees for Glen Oaks Community College, bringing professional experience in insurance, human resources, and workforce leadership to the college. A proud Glen Oaks alumnus, Rod offers a student-centered perspective shaped by both his own educational journey and his family’s experience with community college pathways.

His service reflects a strong belief in access, affordability, and education as a foundation for long-term success.


Professional and Community Background

Rod currently serves the Sturgis community as an independent insurance agent with Littman Insurance, where he specializes in coverage protecting against property loss, natural disasters, vandalism, and related risks. Known for his client-first approach, he works closely with individuals and families to identify insurance solutions that provide value and peace of mind.

Earlier in his career, Rod worked in human resources as an HR Generalist and Manager at Diversified Machine. As part of the leadership team, he supported initiatives focused on employee satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and operational effectiveness.

Rod earned an Associate in Business from Glen Oaks Community College before completing both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Davenport University, reflecting his commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.


Service to Glen Oaks

As Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Rod supports governance, policy oversight, and Board operations that advance the college’s mission and strategic priorities. His professional background in business and workforce development contributes to informed decision-making focused on student outcomes and community needs.

Rod’s connection to Glen Oaks is also deeply personal. His daughter, Alyssa, participated in the Glen Oaks Early Middle College program, earning 42 college credits while attending Sturgis High School. Those credits transferred seamlessly to Western Michigan University. His daughter Johana completed her Medical Assistant certification through Glen Oaks, demonstrating the value of career-focused training and accessible educational pathways.


Personal Background

Rod and his wife, Maribel, live in Sturgis, where they raised four children. As both a Glen Oaks graduate and parent of a Glen Oaks student, Rod remains a strong advocate for educational pathways that support learners at every stage of life.


Governance Role

Trustees serve in a governance and policy-making capacity and are not involved in the day-to-day operations of the college. Operational leadership is provided by the President and executive leadership team.
