Financial Help to Cover Childcare While You Attend Classes

If you’re a parenting student in an approved occupational program at Glen Oaks, we’re here to support your success—on campus and at home. The OSSP Childcare Scholarship helps cover the cost of childcare so you can focus on your education and future career.

Scholarship FAQs

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be enrolled in an approved occupational degree or certificate program, or completing prerequisites for programs like Nursing
  • Be the parent or legal guardian of a child who receives care from a licensed provider
  • Be Pell Grant eligible, as determined by your current FAFSA
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible permanent resident
  • Need childcare because:
    • You’re a single parent, or
    • Your spouse/domestic partner works at least 30 hours per week, is a student, or is disabled (documentation may be required)

Note: You must submit a FAFSA for the current academic year to apply.


How to Apply

Submit the following to the OSSP Coordinator:

  1. Completed OSSP Childcare Assistance Application
  2. Copy of your current FAFSA confirmation
  3. Copy of your most recent federal tax return (Form 1040/1040A/1040EZ) or proof of income
  4. If you receive DHS or Work First childcare support:
    • Include the most recent award or denial letter from DHS

If you’re not receiving DHS assistance, you’ll need to apply with your local Department of Human Services and include that decision with your OSSP application.


How Much Support Can I Receive?

  • Awards are based on a percentage of total childcare costs
  • Funds are paid directly to your licensed childcare provider
  • You may be required to pay a small co-pay
  • No reimbursements will be issued directly to you
  • Students with unpaid childcare balances will not be eligible until the balance is cleared

Reasons You May Lose Funding

You could lose eligibility if:

  • Federal funding for this program is reduced or removed
  • You provide false or inaccurate information
  • You withdraw from all classes or leave GOCC
  • You stop using childcare services or fail to pay your co-pay
  • Your child is no longer enrolled with the provider
  • You graduate from GOCC

When Should I Apply?

Funding is limited and deadlines vary by semester.
Contact the OSSP Coordinator as early as possible to check availability and submit your application.


What Happens After I Apply?

  • Your application will be reviewed by the OSSP Coordinator
  • Financial information is verified using your FAFSA data
  • Awards are based on:
    • Income and Pell eligibility
    • Number of credits enrolled
    • Number of children in care
    • Childcare expenses
    • Time remaining in your program

You’ll receive an award letter by email with your scholarship amount, co-pay info, coverage dates, and next steps.
