If you’re a high school graduate from the Class of 2023 or later, the Michigan Achievement Scholarship can help you attend Glen Oaks with little or no out-of-pocket cost. This statewide scholarship program is designed to make college more accessible for Michigan families—and Glen Oaks is proud to participate.

What Is the Michigan Achievement Scholarship?

The Michigan Achievement Scholarship is a renewable financial aid award for students who:

  • Graduate from a Michigan high school in 2023 or later
  • Plan to attend a Michigan college or university
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $25,000 or less

At Glen Oaks, eligible students can receive up to $2,750 per year toward their tuition and fees:

  • $1,750 minimum award
  • $1,000 additional last-dollar award (covers remaining tuition, contact hours, and mandatory fees after other aid is applied)

This scholarship can be used for up to 3 years at Glen Oaks—or up to 5 years total if transferring to a public or private four-year institution.

How It Works

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a Michigan resident since at least July 1 of the previous year
    • If dependent, your parent must also be a Michigan resident
  • Enroll full-time within 15 months of high school graduation
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible refugee
  • Not be incarcerated or in loan default

What Can I Use the Scholarship For?

Q: Do I have to repay the scholarship?
A: No. This is not a loan—it’s a scholarship provided by the State of Michigan.

Q: Can I use the award for books or transportation?
A: While MAS is applied to tuition and fees, other aid (such as the Pell Grant) may help cover those costs. Ask our financial aid office about full coverage options.

Q: Can I transfer later to a university?
A: Yes. MAS can follow you to a participating four-year Michigan college after completing your associate degree.

Q: What happens if I don’t qualify for Pell?
A: You can still receive the minimum MAS award if your EFC is $25,000 or below.

Q: Is Glen Oaks a participating college?
A: Yes. Glen Oaks Community College is an eligible institution under the MAS program.
